I also liked this one because the owner has an Eddie Bauer F150 almost exactly like mine (not sure of the year) so I thought he was an F150 enthusiast also. If they are not sure, then I'll revisit if this is the right shop to go to and probably continue looking for a shop. However, of course with Steve83's comments, I'm going to ask for a guarantee of the work that it will actually fix the leak. I finally found my Haynes manual, so I took at look at it for how to replace the rear main seal, and it doesn't seem like it would take that long (maybe 3 hours max? even for someone with my expertise which is none.) So, $300-$600 depending on hourly labor rates should be a maximum price for just the main seal. For some reason, I forgot to add whether the truck is 2wd or 4wd in my signature line, so I've done that. $700 seems a little steep, but labor is not cheap these days and you can count on them marking up the part 300-400% over rockauto prices.Īny transmission work should be done at the same time to basically combine the labor, but if it ain't broke - you know the rest. A 4WD will require a little more more labor than a 2WD. So any professional quote will take that into consideration. PatThe transmission will have to come off to do it right. I looked a little bit through the advanced search here and people have said around $700 for that job. So I wanted to have some knowledge before I spoke with them during the estimate conversation. Is this a motorcraft only thing also, or some other vendor for the main seal?Ī reputable local repair shop left a message saying it's the rear main seal, but I have not spoken to them yet, this was just a voicemail. I'm trying to get a ballpark decent cost for replacing the rear main seal to fix an oil leak, and I'm assuming I should have replaced the transmission front seal as well while it's out? I was also interested in the parts recommendation.
